"New Beginnings”

Co-sponsored by The Ohio State University College of Social Work

May 28-30, 2020

Columbus, Ohio

This conference marks the return of the Society for Spirituality and Social Work at a time when the global community is experiencing the types of division and discord that the values under-girding social work and spirituality are well suited to address. (hungering for connection, understanding, unity, and freedom from oppression). From religious violence in synagogues and mosques, to the dispiriting confinement of immigrant children and their families, to the ongoing issues of reproductive justice, racism, and poverty, now is the time to discuss the role that spirituality and social work can play in tackling these issues.

This conference will bring together academics, practitioners, and students from various disciplines for an exciting and informative exchange of scholarship and ideas related to spirituality in research, professional education, social work practice, and policy/social action. Sessions will be 60 or 120 minutes and the formats include:

§ Scholarly paper presentations (60 minutes)

§ Panel discussions (60 minutes)

§ E-poster presentations (60 minutes)

§ Roundtable discussions (60 minutes)

§ Experiential workshops (60 or 120 minutes)

Submissions are invited on diverse topics related to the conference theme focusing on ways to have new beginnings and spiritual interventions to issues facing us in the field today. The deadline for abstract submissions is January 15, 2020 with notifications sent out no later than March 15, 2020. Submissions will undergo a double-blind, peer-review and must include the following information:
